What MamaBear gives your team

Structured, asynchronous data — captured at home, when symptoms are actually happening — not recalled in an exam room.

Symptom Tracking

Logs cough, noisy breathing, sore throat, ear pain, rapid breathing, chest retractions, nasal congestion, vomiting and diarrhea, rapid heart rate, and fever across days — providing temporal data to support pattern recognition and disease trajectory.

Therapeutic Response

See if antipyretics, bronchodilators, or supportive care improved symptoms — helping guide treatment decisions and avoid unnecessary escalation.

Video + Activity Context

15-second videos captured during episodes allow accurate asynchronous evaluation of wheezing or respiratory effort against the clinical baseline.

Asthma Risk Support

Supports Modified Asthma Predictive Index (mAPI) data collection to improve early identification of children at risk for persistent asthma.

EHR Integration

Reports delivered securely via direct messaging into Epic, supporting pre-visit review, clinical documentation, and patient-provider communication.

Antibiotic Stewardship

Monitors symptom duration and changes to help distinguish viral from bacterial presentations — reducing unnecessary prescriptions.

Clinically and legally defensible

Medical Necessity Statement

Use of MamaBear Health is medically necessary to support timely evaluation and management of pediatric respiratory symptoms when in-person assessment is delayed or unavailable. The tool enables secure, HIPAA-compliant collection of structured symptom data — including video, environmental exposure, and symptom duration — to facilitate clinician review and appropriate triage, reducing risk of delayed diagnosis and unnecessary antibiotic use.

Justification

MamaBear is a medically necessary store-and-forward telehealth platform that allows asynchronous clinical review of pediatric respiratory symptoms when live telehealth or in-person evaluation is not feasible. This service supports early intervention, reduces avoidable urgent care and emergency visits, and promotes adherence to evidence-based care plans in accordance with state and federal telehealth policies.

Bill with codes you already use

Over 37 state Medicaid programs reimburse for store-and-forward services. Private insurers in approximately 34 states are required to reimburse for asynchronous telehealth, often at the same rate as in-person visits when billed with the correct modifier (e.g., GQ).
